A research group led by Professor SUI Yongming from the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials, College of Physics, Jilin University (JLU), realized anomalous pressure-induced blue-shifted luminescence of ionic copper-iodine clusters through the competitive effect between coprophilic interactions and through-space interactions.

The research results were published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition, one of the prime chemistry journals in the world, under the title Anomalous Pressure-Induced Blue-Shifted Emission of Ionic Copper-Iodine Clusters: The Competitive Effect between Coprophilic Interactions and Through-Space Interactions.
The first author of the paper is WANG Shanshan, a 2023 doctoral candidate in the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials at JLU. The corresponding author is Professor SUI Yongming. The research was guided by Professor ZOU Bo of the College of Physics, as well as supported by Professor YANG Bing of the College of Chemistry at JLU and Professor WANG Kai of Liaocheng University.
In this article, the research group achieved an anomalous pressure-induced blue-shifted luminescence phenomenon in ionic Cu4I6(4-dimethylamino-1-ethylpyridinium)2 crystals through a pressure-treated strategy for the first time, which is based on dominant through-space charge-transfer (TSCT).

This work deepens our understanding of pressure-induced luminescence and provides new ideas for designing and synthesizing materials with high-energy TSCT emission.
