Professor G. Julius Vancso, a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and professor at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, was invited to lecture at Jilin University (JLU) on Sept 27, 2023.

Vancso delivered a fascinating academic presentation, “Towards Biomimetic Adhesives in Polymer Technology: The Combat with Marine Fouling and Some Lessons to Learn”, to faculty and students at the Dingxin Lecture.

JLU President ZHANG Xi attended the lecture and presented Vancso with a commemorative plaque for the Dingxin Lecture. The lecture was hosted by ZHANG Wenke, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Structure and Materials at JLU.

Vancso shared his research on biomimetic adhesives in polymer technology, focusing on the mechanisms of marine biofouling, anti-fouling strategies, and how nature inspires the design and creation of high-performance adhesives.

He also highlighted the superior properties of mussel-based catechols as natural adhesives and discussed the application of synthetic biomimetic adhesives developed by his research team in anti-fouling surface engineering and aerospace composite materials.

This lecture was hosted by the Jilin University Association for Science and Technology and the College of Chemistry.
