On June 8, Tian Hui, Secretary of the CPC Jilin University Committee, met with a delegation led by Matthias Remund, Secretary-General and CEO of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The two sides discussed opporutinies for cooperation in the training of sports professionals, the organization of international sporting events, and the promotion of campus sports culture.

On behalf of Jilin University (JLU) and President Zhang Xi, Tian Hui extended a warm welcome to the FISU delegation and introduced the university’s recent development. He noted that JLU is committed to fostering well-rounded student development through the integration of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. The university has actively promoted the integration of sports and education, achieving notable results in international competitions and global sports exchanges.
As the chair institution of the University Badminton Branch of the Federation of University Sports of China, JLU has supported the Chinese University Student Badminton Team to achieving significant success at international competitions. The university also actively advances international partnerships to facilitate faculty-student exchanges and cultural interaction.
With the 33rd Winter Universiade scheduled to be hosted in Changchun in 2027, JLU will fully support the preparation and organization of the event. Tian Hui expressed hopethat both sides would further strengthen practical cooperation, cultivate high-quality sports professionals with interdisciplinary expertise, expand youth exchanges through the Universiade platform, and jointly promote the development of a vibrant campus sports culture.
Matthias Remund expressed gratitude for Jilin University’s warm hospitality and introduced FISU’s three core strategic priorities. These include organizing major international events such as the Summer and Winter Universiades and FISU World Cups; developing a global education system for master’s programmes in sports management; and promoting the “Healthy Campus” initiative, which aims to support both student-athletes and broader student population while encouraging balanced development in academics and sports.
Drawing on his decades of experience in university sports, Remund emphasized the important role of university sports in developing future leaders and professionals in the sports industry.. He expressed his hope for broader cooperation between the two sides in areas such as taletent development, , academic exchange, and event coordination.


Prior to the meeting, Executive Vice President Cai Lidong met with Matthias Remund and members of the FISU delegation to discuss the proposed FISU’s Master’s Programme in Sports Management. The two sides held detailed discussions on the programme’s framwork, implementation plan, and future cooperation. During their visit to Jilin University, the FISU delegation also toured the Song Zhiping Gymnasium of JLU and learned about the university’s sports facilities and development initiatives.
The delegation also included Delise O’Meally, FISU Head of Higher Education Relations, and Shen Zhen, FISU Chief Sports Officer. Representatives of relevant departments at Jilin University participated throughout the meeting and related activities.
