2025-10-21

The BIOMOD 2025 Final concluded at Jilin University on October 19, marking the first time this prestigious international competition was hosted by a Chinese university. BIOMOD 2025 welcomed teams from 19 universities across China, Japan, Canada, the United States, Indonesia, and India.

The Nano-JLU team from the School of Life Sciences at Jilin University won the Grand Prize with their project, “TDN: A Controllable 2D Self-Assembling Nanomaterial Capable of Substrate-Independent Growth.” This achievement marks the first time a Chinese team has won the Grand Prize for two consecutive years. In addition, Nano-JLU earned five other awards: the Gold Project Award, Audience Favorite, Best YouTube Video, Best Project Website, and second place in Best Presentation.

BIOMOD is an international biomolecular nanotechnology competition open to undergraduates worldwide. Originally established at Harvard University in 2011, it aims to foster interdisciplinary innovation in cutting-edge fields such as synthetic biology and nanotechnology. The Nano-JLU team, founded in 2016, has built an impressive track record: over the past decade, they have won five gold medals, three silver medals, and 11 individual awards, with more than 70 students having participated in the competition.
