JLU makes progress in semiconductor NCT theory

2024-09-03

Researchers from the Key Laboratory of Material Simulation Methods & Software at the College of Physics, Jilin University (JLU), recently made progress in the theory of nonreciprocal charge transport (NCT) in semiconductors.

Their research results, titled General Theory for Longitudinal Nonreciprocal Charge Transport, were published in Phys Rev. Lett.

Professor ZHAO Hongjian from JLU College of Physics is the first author, and Professor Laurent Bellaiche from the University of Arkansas in the United States is the co-author. Associate Professor FU Yuhao and Academician MA Yanming from JLU and Professor TAO Lingling from the Harbin Institute of Technology are the corresponding authors.

According to the article, NCT occurs in crystalline materials and is a highly nontrivial phenomenon. Establishing a general theory for NCT will help discover crystalline materials with NCT characteristics at room temperature, motivating the design of next-generation two-terminal rectification devices./

Based on symmetry analysis, first-principle calculations, and Boltzmann transport theory, the research team predicted that ε- Fe2O3 is a potential semiconductor material with NCT characteristics at room temperature.
