JLU researchers propose new framework in field theories

2024-09-19

Professor HE Song and Associate Professor OUYANG Hao from the Theoretical Centre at College of Physics, Jilin University (JLU), along with scientists from Iran and Italy, recently published an article in Physical Review Letters, introducing their breakthrough in field theories and deformation field.

The authors of the article, titled Geometric Formulation of Generalized Root-T`T Deformations, are sorted alphabetically by surname according to the conventions of high-energy theoretical physics. The study was conducted by the College of Physics at JLU as the first unit.

According to the article, the quantum field theory and the general theory of relativity are the two core theories in modern physics that describe the interactions between microscopic particles and gravity. How to combine the two theories to construct a unified theory of quantum gravity has long been a major challenge for physicists.

T`T deformation, an independent deformation theory introduced through the energy-momentum tensor, has received widespread attention in recent years. Its promotion in high-dimensional spacetime still faces significant difficulties.

Regarding this issue, the research team proposed a theoretical framework for describing generalized T`T -like and root- T`T -like deformations in arbitrary dimension. Through this framework, the coupled problem between deformed field theory and the general theory of relativity can be equivalently transformed into the problem between undeformed field theory and modified gravity, providing new ideas for the mutual transformation of complex quantum field theory and gravitational problems.

The theoretical framework provides a new perspective for understanding quantum physics and black hole physics, and opens up new search avenues for constructing an ultraviolet complete quantum gravity theory.
