The 2024 Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Backyard Exchange and Observation Event, also known as the sci-tech backyard plaque awarding ceremony, was held at Jilin Agricultural University on July 2 and 3.
The event aimed to promote the experiences of the province’s sci-tech backyards and support the rural vitalization.

During the event, three sci-tech backyards established by the functional agriculture team from Jilin University’s College of Plant Science were awarded plaques, namely those focusing on the prune, the kale, and the tomato technologies.
Team leader HAN Junyou attended the ceremony and reported on the backyards’ construction.

Prune Science and Technology Backyard, located in Lanjia town, Kuancheng district, Changchun, focuses on introducing and domesticating prune and other fruit and vegetable varieties, applying bio-nutritional enhancement technologies and standardizing grafting techniques.
Kale Science and Technology Backyard in Hunchun’s Hadamen township is dedicated to breeding and promoting JLU’s rice and soybean varieties, the large-scale production and processing of functional agricultural products, and integrating industries to boost border village economies.
Tomato Science and Technology Backyard in Peijia village, Lyuyuan district, Changchun, focuses on pest and disease control during autumn and winter tomato production, applying bio-nutritional enhancement technologies and promoting agricultural education and activities.

The college’s graduate students have already moved into the backyards, which will serve as a bridge between farmers and researchers, provide technological support, and help farmers solve production issues as well as master practical agricultural techniques, ultimately increasing their incomes and helping them achieve prosperity.
