JLU delegation visits universities in Australia

Prof. ZHANG Xi, President of Jilin University (JLU) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation on a visit to universities in Australia from April 10 to 12, 2024.

ZHANG visited the University of Queensland (UQ) and the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), while also attending the Fifth JLU-UQ Research Symposium and the Deans’ Roundtable Forum hosted by the UQ.

On April 10, ZHANG and Deborah Terry, President of the UQ, renewed the cooperation agreement between the two universities, with the signing ceremony witnessed by RUAN Zongze, Chinese Consul General in Brisbane.

On April 11, ZHANG attended the Fifth JLU-UQ Research Symposium and delivered a keynote address alongside Alan Rowan, Director of the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology.

Later that afternoon, the two universities co-hosted the Deans’ Roundtable Forum. Several deans from JLU engaged with counterparts from the UQ in discussions on discipline development and research collaboration. The two sides reached agreements on undergraduate dual-degree programs, joint postgraduate training, and the co-hosting of international conferences.

On April 12, the delegation visited the UniSQ, where they explored prospects for collaboration, focusing on agriculture, environmental science, medicine, and digital education.

The two sides also held in-depth discussions on topics such as artificial intelligence, emergency medical training and sustainable agriculture, reaching a consensus on jointly conducting short-term online and offline emergency training and exchanging views on promoting mutual visits and joint training between teachers and students in agriculture field.
