Prof. Zhang Xi, President of Jilin University (JLU) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences led a delegation to Macao, China on March 26-27, 2024 to strengthen inter-university cooperation and exchange.
The head of JLU visited the University of Macau (UM) and the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).
The JLU delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with their leaders on joint talent cultivation, collaboration on national research platforms and talent introduction.

During his visit to UM, ZHANG met with its Rector SONG Yonghua and provided an overview of JLU’s development. He suggested expanding joint efforts, particularly in talent cultivation.

Consensus was reached on the importance of improving cooperation on national research platforms to advance the exploration of frontier science and to foster interdisciplinary research.


The delegates also toured the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, the State Key Lab of Analog and Mixed-signal VLSI and the library at UM – praising the research achievements and protection of precious ancient books.

At MUST, ZHANG held talks with its President LEE Hun-wei and congratulated the university on its 24th anniversary. He called for the advancement of joint student training programs in geosciences and engineering, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration between academics from the institutions.

The delegation witnessed the signing of a framework agreement between the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science at MUST and the College of Geo-Exploration Science and Technology at JLU, marking a new chapter in their partnership.

During the visit to Macao, ZHANG also visited alumni of JLU working in local government departments, companies and universities.
