JLU wins Silver Project Award at BIOMOD 2023

2023-11-14

The Nano-JLU team from Jilin University (JLU) recently received the Silver Project Award at the 2023 Biomolecular Design Competition (BIOMOD).

BIOMOD 2023, hosted by the Molecular Robotics Research Group in Japan and organized by the Tokyo Institute of Technology, aimed to enhance the application of biological nanomaterials and foster exchange and innovation among undergraduates worldwide.

Professor GUAN Shuwen and XU Yang with a doctorate from the College of Life Sciences and Professor Li Wen from the College of Chemistry guided the team, which comprised eight students from the College of Chemistry, College of Life Sciences, School of Public Health, and Norman Bethune First School of Clinical Medicine.

The team had designed and developed a cutting-edge nanosphere with the capability of cell membrane rupture, which performs well in targeting tumor cells and pH responsiveness.

Founded by Harvard University, BIOMOD is a world-class competition for undergraduates to create controllable nanostructures using biomolecules like DNA and proteins.

From 2015 to 2022, the Nano-JLU team participated in BIOMOD six times, securing three gold awards, two silver awards, and one bronze award and claiming the title of Best Project Website.
