The Kensai Energy Conservation Team from Jilin University (JLU) delivered an impressive performance at the Shell Eco-marathon China 2023, which took place in Beijing on Oct 19, 2023.
The team clinched victory in two national championship categories: the prototype – internal combustion engine category, which achieved a remarkable 607 km/L, and the urban concept – battery electric category, which achieved 35 km/kWh.
The Shell Eco-marathon is a global academic program for university and high school students. Since 1985, the event has been hosted in various cities across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. It aims to inspire students to use creative thinking to design and build low-carbon, eco-friendly prototype vehicles, which they then race on the track to test innovation and efficiency.
Introduced to China in 2019, the Shell Eco-marathon has quickly become a prestigious event for the country's top universities. JLU's team has consistently excelled, twice competing on the international stage.
This year's event attracted 17 teams from leading institutions across China. The Kensai Energy Conservation Team's victory marked JLU's third consecutive win and established it as a pioneer in the newly introduced the urban concept – battery electric category.
