On April 9, Prof. Cai Lidong, Executive Vice President of Jilin University, met with a delegation led by Prof. Lee Ki-jeong, President of Hanyang University of the Republic of Korea.

Prof. Cai extended a warm welcome to Prof. Lee and his delegation, and congratulated him on his appointment as Chairman of the Korean Council for University Education. He noted that, as the Chinese leading institution of the China-ROK University Presidents Forum, Jilin University is ready to work with the ROK side to make greater contributions to deepening China-ROK educational cooperation by relying on the two platforms of the Korean Council for University Education and the China-ROK University Presidents Forum. Prof. Cai stated that Hanyang University is an important strategic partner of Jilin University, and the two sides have maintained close and practical cooperation over the past decade. He expressed the hope that the two universities will continue to join hands in the future to promote common development through international cooperation.
Prof. Lee remarked that Jilin University is Hanyang University’s most important partner in China, and the two sides have forged a close, productive partnership and profound friendship over the years. He pointed out that China has maintained strong development momentum in recent years with remarkable achievements in various fields. He believed that further deepening bilateral cooperation will surely bring new opportunities and space for the development of both universities, and inject new impetus into China-ROK cooperation in education, technology and industrial innovation.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the fruitful cooperation outcomes in talent cultivation, academic exchanges, and the joint establishment of the Confucius Institute, among other areas. They also had in-depth discussions on topics including artificial intelligence empowering talent development, scientific research and administrative management capacity, and reached broad consensus on further strengthening cooperation in the future.

Kim Hansung, Vice President for International Affairs, Kim Hyunju of Hanyang University, Kim Hyunju, General Manager of International Admissions of Hanyang University, as well as relevant responsible persons from the Graduate School, College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, Office of Global Engagement, and Library of Jilin University attended the meeting.

During the visit, Prof. Lee delivered a keynote speech entitled The Role of Universities in the AI Era. He pointed out that universities should keep pace with the times and actively embrace the digital world, and university students should shift from passive recipients of knowledge to active learners skilled at asking questions. More than 200 teachers and students from the School of Foreign Languages and Culture, College of Northeast Asian Studies, School of International and Public Affairs, College of Computer Science and Technology, College of Artificial Intelligence and other schools of Jilin University attended the lecture and participated in the interactive session.

In addition, Prof. Lee and his delegation also visited the exhibition of rare ancient books hosted by Jilin University, where they gained a detailed understanding of the university’s efforts in ancient book collection, preservation, restoration, research and utilization. The delegation spoke highly of the documentary value and profound cultural heritage of the rare collections.
