Jilin University’s Distinguished Professor Hans Christopher Juhlin Awarded 2025 Chinese Government Friendship Award

On September 30, the 2025 Chinese Government Friendship Award ceremony was solemnly held at the Great Hall of the People. Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin presented the awards to the recipients and delivered remarks, while Wang Xiaoping, Minister of Human Resources and Social Security, announced the award decision. Hans Christopher Juhlin, Distinguished Professor at Jilin University, was among this year’s honorees. To date, a total of 18 foreign experts recommended by Jilin University have received the Chinese Government Friendship Award.

Following the ceremony, Prof. Juhlin attended the reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, representing the cohort of foreign experts in attendance.

Established in 1991, the Chinese Government Friendship Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Chinese Government on foreign experts in recognition of their outstanding contributions to China’s modernization and its reform and opening-up efforts. In 2025, a total of 50 international experts were selected for this prestigious award.

Prof. Hans Christopher Juhlin was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 2014. He currently serves as Professor in the Department of Geophysics at Uppsala University’s Department of Earth Sciences, Visiting Professor at Curtin University, Distinguished Professor at Jilin University, and Project Coordinator for the Swedish Deep Drilling Program (SDDP). His previous roles include Head of Uppsala University’s Department of Earth Sciences (2016–2019), Chair of the Energy, Resources and the Environment (ERE) Division of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) (2012–2016), and member of the Energy Committee of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (2015–2018).
