Jilin University Students Achieve New Heights at 2025 International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM)

Recently, five teams comprising 106 students from 18 colleges of Jilin University achieved remarkable results at the 2025 International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM).

The 2025 iGEM Grand Jamboree was held in Paris, France, attracting over 9,000 participants from more than 40 countries, with a total of 421 teams competing. Representing units including the Third Bethune Hospital, School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Computer Science and Technology, School of Public Health, and the School of Life Sciences, Jilin University’s teams won 4 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 6 nominations. For the first time, Jilin University ranked among the global TOP 10, setting a new record for the university’s best performance in iGEM history.

The International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) is a premier international scientific and technological event for college students and the most influential academic competition in the field of synthetic biology. It emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration across biology, medicine, mathematics, computer science, statistics, and engineering. Jilin University has participated in iGEM since 2014, won its first gold medal in 2016, and achieved an outstanding “eight consecutive gold medals” streak from 2018 to 2025.
