Professor CHEN Shengbo of Jilin University (JLU), as the Associate Editor, attended the press conference on the official release of the world’s first 1:2.5 million Lunar Geologic Atlas in Beijing on April 19, 2024.

The groundbreaking atlas was developed over 10 years by a research team led by the Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), in collaboration with multiple institutions, including JLU, Shandong University, the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS.
As a member of the Lunar Science and Comparative Planetary Science Professional Committee at the Chinese Society of Space Research, Professor CHEN led his team in the production of six sectional geological maps and oversaw the compilation of the lunar tectonic outline map of the atlas.

The atlas, which draws on data from China’s Chang’e lunar exploration missions and international lunar exploration projects, comprehensively presents the geology and evolution of the Moon. It serves as a crucial reference for lunar scientific research, exploration planning, landing site selection, and the development of geological maps for other celestial bodies.
