On Dec 18, 2023, Jilin University (JLU) President ZHANG Xi welcomed Professor Pascal Boireau, an academician of the French Veterinary Academy and head of the Paris Division of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety.

ZHANG welcomed Boireau and expressed gratitude for his significant contributions over the past 30 years to developing the university's veterinary medicine discipline.

ZHANG hoped that Boireau would share his valuable experience in zoonotic diseases and contribute to future talent cultivation, scientific research, and laboratory development at JLU.

ZHANG also hoped that Boireau could assist in attracting public health experts to JLU. This would enhance the university's capabilities in big health research and talent development and further promote the interdisciplinary integration of veterinary medicine, medicine, and public health.

Boireau remarked on the significant achievements in scientific research and talent cultivation resulting from the 30 years of collaboration between the two institutions.

He emphasized that combating epidemic diseases requires a multidisciplinary approach involving medicine, history, society, and anthropology, all working under the "One Health" concept to address future challenges.

He underscored the importance of talent cultivation in laboratory-related fields, noting that high-level laboratories provide the necessary conditions for conducting advanced research and developing solutions.

Looking ahead, Boireau hoped to recommend more outstanding talents to JLU, continue deepening cooperation, share relevant experiences, and jointly cultivate talents to contribute to the "One Health" initiative.
