4th Annual SPWLA-SW Symposium held at JLU

The 4th Annual Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts Southwest China Chapter (SPWLA-SW) Symposium was held at Jilin University (JLU) from Jan 13 to 14, 2024.

The symposium was organized by JLU’s College of Geo-exploration Science and Technology and the Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center for Stereo-exploration of Geological Resources, with support from several universities across China.

Harry XIE, Vice President of SPWLA, ZENG Zhaofa, Dean of the College of Geo-exploration Science and Technology at JLU, and scholars and experts from over 20 universities and enterprises participated in the symposium. This symposium recorded 173 offline attendees, and online views surpassed 25,000.

JLU Associate Professor GUO Yuhang chaired the symposium, with opening remarks delivered by ZENG and SPWLA-SW President WANG Hua.

On the first day, professors from JLU and the China University of Geosciences (Beijing) presented keynote speeches, sharing their latest research findings, which the attendees highly praised.

The following day featured academic exchanges focusing on rock physics, artificial intelligence, and well logging, with lively discussions among scholars from various universities and research institutes. Additionally, eight young scholars were recognized with the Youth Outstanding Report Award.

This symposium highlighted cutting-edge technologies and industry developments, providing a crucial platform for exchanging ideas in geophysical exploration and engineering. It fostered deeper collaboration between academia and industry, driving innovation and progress in the field.
