JLU delegation visits Spain and Italy

JIANG Zhiying, Chairman of the University Council, Jilin University (JLU), led a delegation to visit Spain and Italy from Nov 21 to 27, 2023, to engage in exchanges with local universities and institutions.

The delegation visited Madrid and Valladolid in Spain, meeting with representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Spain, IB’s Spanish headquarters, the University of Valladolid, and the Valladolid municipal government.

Chinese Ambassador to Spain, YAO Jing, welcomed the delegation. JIANG emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to expand cooperation with Spanish universities. With the support of the embassy, he hoped for further collaboration in talent cultivation, academic exchanges, and scientific research.

At IB’s Spanish headquarters, JIANG met with Chairman Kwon Yong-ho, where they reached a consensus on deepening and expanding their cooperation. They exchanged opinions on the next development plan for the Spanish major at JLU and the sustainable development of the Dongyung Scholarship.

JIANG also visited the University of Valladolid, where he signed a memorandum of understanding and a student exchange agreement with the university’s rector Antonio Largo Cabrerizo. Both sides committed to talent development, scientific research, and cultural exchange.

Additionally, JIANG met with Jesús Julio Carnero, mayor of Valladolid. They agreed to strengthen cooperation and exchange between Chinese and Spanish universities.

Following the visit to Spain, JIANG led the delegation to Italy, where the delegation visited the University of Trento and the University of Florence.

At the University of Trento, JIANG engaged in discussions with Rector Flavio Deflorian and renewed the memorandum of understanding. Both sides expressed a desire to continue strengthening cooperation in joint training, collaborative research, and academic exchange.

At the University of Florence, JIANG met with Giorgia Giovannetti, the university’s Vice President for international relations. They reviewed their cooperation in economics and explored further collaboration in bio-agricultural engineering, arts, and the humanities.

This visit not only deepened JLU’s partnerships with universities in Spain and Italy but also laid a solid foundation for future international exchange and cooperation.
