2023-12-05

To strengthen water resource collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, College of New Energy and Environment at Jilin University hosted the sixth China-Japan- South Korea Water Science Forum on Dec 2-3, 2023.

Co-organized by the Ministry of Water Resources' Digital Twin Watershed Key Laboratory, the forum gathered over 100 representatives. They came from universities, research institutes and companies – from China, Japan and South Korea – with global livestreams via WeChat, Zoom and Tencent Meeting.

With a focus on “Digital Twin and Flood Simulation”, the forum featured offline keynote sessions and online broadcasts.

For the first time, an academic committee of the forum was established, chaired by Academician WANG Hao, with professors XU Tianfu, GUAN Tiesheng, and LIU Jiahong as vice-chairs – marking what was called a leap forwards in organizational structure and industry influence of the forum.

The event brought together senior experts and leading figures in water science from the three nations, who shared their latest research in digital twin technology and urban flood prevention.

The livestreams attracted 14,000 viewers and 72,000 likes, breaking last year’s records.

The forum also released an inaugural logo, symbolizing "close ties" and "boundless possibilities" among scientists from China, Japan and South Korea.

Over its six editions, the forum has addressed common water resource challenges in Northeast Asia, aiming to optimize water resource allocation and enhance the quality of life.
