JLU’s college hosts forum on polar ice drilling, climatology

The College of Construction Engineering of Jilin University hosted an online forum regarding cutting-edge technologies in polar mountain ice drilling, underground resource development, and climatology on Nov 30, 2023.

The event was attended by 41 faculty members and graduate students from Jilin University, including Pavel Talalay, director of the Polar Science and Engineering Research Institute, and Professor Alexey Markov from the university's Polar Research Center.

Four experts from Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences were invited to deliver online academic lectures to the faculty and students.

The Russian experts, namely Professor Vladimir Mikhalenko, researchers Stanislav Kutuzov, and Iuliia Chizhova and Diana Vladimirova, shared their latest research findings. Their presentations covered advanced technologies and methodologies in ice drilling and polar climatology, sparking lively discussions and expanding the participants' academic perspectives.

An engaging Q&A session followed the lectures and allowed faculty and students to interact with the experts. Iuliia Chizhova expressed her satisfaction with the forum and looked forward to further collaborations with the College of Construction Engineering.

The forum was essential for fostering international cooperation and enhancing the university’s academic environment.
