The 11th China-ROK Public Diplomacy Forum was held at Jilin University on Nov 30, 2023.
It brought together former diplomats and scholars from China and Republic of Korea (ROK) to discuss bilateral relations and the future dynamics of Northeast Asia through the lens of public diplomacy.
Professor Lee Hee-ok, director of the Sungkyun Institute of China Studies at Sungkyunkwan University, delivered a keynote address during the forum’s opening ceremony.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing cultural exchanges and expanding communication channels to pave the way for the next 30 years of China-ROK relations.
Professor XIAO Xi, dean of the School of International and Public Affairs at Jilin University, highlighted the forum's vital role in promoting cultural exchanges between the two countries. She noted that it provides a valuable opportunity for dialogue and exchange among scholars and students from both universities.
Former ROK ambassador to China, Shin Jung-seung, identified the economic sector as a key area for potential cooperation in public diplomacy between China and ROK. Meanwhile, former Chinese ambassador to ROK, NING Fukui, underscored the importance of youth exchanges for sustainable development in bilateral relations.
Former Chinese ambassador to ASEAN, XU Bu, advocated for China, Japan, and South Korea to adopt the concept of "a community of shared destiny" to guide their policy actions and foster regional stability.
Hosted by the School of International and Public Affairs at Jilin University and the Sungkyun Institute of China Studies at Sungkyunkwan University, the forum has become a primary channel for academic exchange in public diplomacy between China and ROK.
