The 5th International Symposium on Shale Oil & Gas Exploration and Development was held at Jilin University (JLU) from Nov 10 to 12, 2023.

JLU President ZHANG Xi attended the symposium and delivered a keynote speech, while SUN Youhong, President of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), chaired the event.

The symposium aimed to promote international academic exchange, drive innovation in the energy sector, and support the global transition to a cleaner, safer and more energy-efficient low-carbon energy system.

Over 210 experts and scholars from 59 institutes from China, the United Kingdom, Israel, Estonia, Jordan and Pakistan shared their research and technological advancements at the event, engaging in discussions on the prospects and challenges of shale oil and gas development in the context of the energy revolution.

JLU has hosted this international symposium since 2011. The event has totally attracted over 1,000 experts and scholars from more than 20 countries during five sessions in 2011, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023, establishing it as a leading academic event in the global shale oil and gas sector.
