Jilin University (JLU) and the University of Manchester held a meeting on Sept 15, 2023, to discuss collaboration in STEM disciplines.

MA Yanming, Vice President of JLU, and Professor David Polya, associate dean for Internationalization at the University of Manchester's Faculty of Science and Engineering, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

The meeting was chaired by LI Meihua, director of the Office of Global Engagement at JLU.

MA welcomed Polya and provided an overview of JLU's academic situation. He expressed hope for deepening practical cooperation in relevant fields, developing more partnership projects, and promoting the joint development of both universities' related disciplines.

Polya thanked JLU for its warm reception and shared the University of Manchester's research strengths and distinctive features. He expressed a desire to explore innovative forms of collaboration based on the existing partnership, broaden the range of cooperative disciplines, and jointly cultivate innovative talents capable of addressing global challenges.

The representatives engaged in extensive discussions on dual degree programs, short-term study visits, joint PhD training, academic exchanges, and interdisciplinary research collaboration, further clarifying cooperation methods and implementation plans.

During their visit to JLU from Sept 14 to 16, Polya and his delegation also engaged in academic exchanges and collaboration discussions at related colleges.
