Professor Hartmut Michel, a winner of Nobel Prize for Chemistry from the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Biophysical Chemistry in Germany, visited Jilin University (JLU) on Sept 18, 2023.
Professor YU Xianghui, dean of the College of Life Sciences at JLU, warmly welcomed Michel and his team. She expressed a desire to further strengthen research collaboration and talent exchange between the college and the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry.
Michel introduced his ideas for collaborative academic exchanges and research initiatives with the college, hoping to deepen communication, expand areas of cooperation, and promote technological innovation and high-level talent cultivation.
The two sides engaged in extensive discussions on discipline development, fundamental research, talent development, and service system development.
Michel also toured the Key Laboratory of Molecular Enzymology and Engineering under the Ministry of Education (MOE), the State Engineering Laboratory for AIDS Vaccine, and the Animal Experiment Center at JLU, where he held important discussions with relevant personnel.
Michel is the youngest recipient of a Nobel Prize in recent 40 years and has maintained a close collaborative relationship with the Key Laboratory of Molecular Enzymology and Engineering, MOE, at JLU. Since 2014, the two parties have jointly developed several national Category I new drugs.
