Professor Fausto Giunchiglia, an academician of the European Academy of Sciences, delivered a lecture, as part of the Dingxin Lecture Series, at Jilin University (JLU) on Sept 20, 2023.
JLU President ZHANG Xi attended the lecture and presented Giunchiglia with a commemorative plaque. CHANG Yi, dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence, hosted the event.
In his lecture, Giunchiglia introduced Witmee, a symbiotic artificial intelligence system. He provided a detailed overview of Witmee's architecture and emphasized the importance of modeling information into context.
He delved into three major challenges related to context recognition in human-machine collaboration and proposed the concept of skeptical learning. This paradigm allows machines to make robust contextual predictions even when the user's world model shifts, when answers are incomplete, or when errors occur, which is vital for improving system reliability.
Giunchiglia also engaged in a discussion with faculty and students, sharing insights on issues such as privacy and security within the Witmee system and the feasibility of knowledge graph modeling for global knowledge. He offered valuable advice and references for young researchers.
