Professor ZHU Song's team from the Norman Bethune Stomatological School and Professor CUI Zhancheng's team from the State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Structure and Materials at Jilin University (JLU) recently published their research in the Journal of Dental Research.

The study, titled Effect of Collagen-Reactive Functional Monomer on Etch-and-Rinse Adhesives, introduces a novel functional monomer that specifically binds to the organic matrix of dentin, protecting collagen, inhibiting protease activity, and enhancing the hydrophobicity of the bonding interface.

The monomer was incorporated into an etch-and-rinse adhesive, improving the stability of the composite resin-dentin bond and paving the way for better long-term outcomes in resin bonding restorations.

Since 2007, ZHU and CUI's teams have focused on interdisciplinary collaboration in dental materials, particularly in enhancing the physicochemical properties and biological functionality of composite resins and dentin adhesives. They have developed several new dental materials designed to improve long-term restoration performance.

Their consecutive publications in top-tier journals over the past year highlight the success of the Norman Bethune Stomatological School's emphasis on interdisciplinary research. The school will continue to promote multidisciplinary integration and cultivate innovative dental research talent.
