JLU launches 2023 ‘International Chinese Language Day’ events

2023-04-20

Jilin University (JLU) hosted a series of cultural activities on April 20, 2023, to celebrate "International Chinese Language Day" and promote the richness of traditional Chinese culture among international students.

Key events included the Workshop on Experience of Ancient Civilization, jointly organized by JLU's Northeast Center for Chinese International Education, library, Archaeology and Art Museum, and College of International Education.

Online showcases, including virtual exhibition halls, lectures, and videos, highlighted thematic displays such as bronze artifacts, Song Dynasty (960-1279) material life, and exquisite porcelain of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, offering global Chinese learners a glimpse into the beauty of ancient relics.

In-person activities featured hands-on experiences like incense crafting, fan painting, and sachet making. Collaborations between the Archaeology and Art Museum and the JLU Library brought Yan's Family Precepts to life through cultural interviews and visual storytelling, emphasizing the enduring values of traditional family teachings.

On campus, demonstrations of ancient book restoration and traditional craftsmanship captivated participants, while overseas Confucius Institutes affiliated with JLU conducted virtual classes, inviting scholars to deliver lectures on Chinese culture, attracting students and teachers from around the world.

Leveraging "International Chinese Language Day", JLU has advanced the global promotion of Chinese language and culture, fostering a bridge for cross-civilizational dialogue.
